 As The Raven's Gift, goes into its edit at St Martin’s Press, I am preparing an exciting new presentation, which I deliver as formal lectures, informal chats, and workshops.

Do we choose magic, or logic as the fundamental driving principle of our lives?

     As a Ph.D Chemist, trained in the rigors of scientific research, I  inadvertently found myself standing naked on one leg in front of a Moolynaut, a 100 year old Siberian shaman, who was invoking Kutcha the Raven God to heal my injured pelvis:

From Moolynaut I learned that:

Logic, by itself, cannot be relied upon to bring us Happiness, Healing, or even Efficiency.  There must be a component of Magic involved:

The Shaman brings Healing, Magic, and Hope;

By seeking ecstasy through Dance, Music, Trance, and even Hunger, Fatigue, and Pain;

By believing the Dream World is indistinguishable from the Real World.

     I've spoken in front of a wide variety of audiences: small bookstores, Universities, kayak symposia, and physicians' dinners.  I find it fun and challenging to alter my talk so that I connect with each audience, but the core message remains constant:

Sample Praise for Jon Turk's Speaking

Thank you so much for your very fine presentation at our Convocation. I have always believed that the aim of life is not only to experience all you can, but to become the type of person who inspires others to experience all they can. If I am right, then you can take pride in being a five star success. Your presentation is one of the very best that I have heard at our school in the past twenty years.
